Mamata Banerjee refuses to step down as CM, says TMC has achieved ‘moral victory’

Kolkata, 5 May. A day after losing power in West Bengal to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and Bengal’s acting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to step down as CM, saying her party had won a ‘moral victory’ while the mandate given to the BJP was achieved through ‘wrongful means’.

‘I am not defeated, That’s why I won’t go to Raj BhavanNeither will I resign.

While talking to the media here on Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of adopting undemocratic tactics to get a huge mandate in the elections and said, ‘There is no question of my resignation. I have not lost, so I will not go to Raj Bhavan. I will not resign. Further strategy will be discussed with party members. I will no longer tolerate the atrocities of BJP and will return to the streets.

Government and Election Commission accused of collusion

TMC Chief Banerjee has already alleged that 100 seats have been ‘stolen’ in this election. Today, he accused the government and the Election Commission of collusion in this and clearly expressed his displeasure, saying, ‘Democracy does not work like this. When the judiciary is not present. When the Election Commission is biased and the government wants one-party rule, it sends a wrong message to the world.

‘I was kicked in the stomach and back at a polling booth’

Mamata also alleged that she was attacked at a polling booth. He said, ‘I was kicked on the stomach and back. CCTV was off. I was pushed out of the counting centre. Being a woman, I was abused.

‘I have seen earlier BJP governments at the Center, but never seen anything like this

Mamata, who was the Railway Minister in the then BJP government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, said, ‘If central forces can behave like this then I have nothing to say. I have seen previous BJP governments at the Centre, but never seen anything like this.

Committee of 5 MPs to probe attacks on TMC offices

Mamata also said that her party will form a ‘fact-finding committee’ with five MPs and other members. The said committee will go to the places where Trinamool is under attack and visit those party offices where vandalism has been carried out.
