Chennai Super Kings kept their playoff hopes alive in Indian Premier League 2026 with a commanding eight-wicket win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.
A composed unbeaten 87 off 52 balls from Sanju Samson, combined with Kartik Sharma’s steady 31 not out, powered CSK to victory as the duo stitched an unbroken 114-run stand to chase down 156 with 15 balls to spare.
Earlier, CSK’s bowlers laid the foundation, with Noor Ahmad (3/22) and Akeal Hosein (1/19) applying the squeeze, while Gurjapneet Singh chipped in to restrict DC to 155/7.
Chasing 156, CSK had a cautious start before Lungi Ngidi removed skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad early. Urvil Patel provided a brief burst with two sixes but fell soon after, leaving CSK at 49/2 in seven overs.
From there, Samson took charge. He brought up his fifty in just 32 balls, taking on Kuldeep Yadav and later punishing T Natarajan in a decisive phase of the chase. Kartik played the perfect supporting role before finishing the match in style with a six and a boundary.
Earlier, DC’s innings never quite gathered momentum. Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul started steadily, but regular wickets derailed the innings. Contributions from Tristan Stubbs (38) and Sameer Rizvi (40*) helped push the total past 150, while brief cameos from Ashutosh Sharma added late runs.
CSK’s disciplined bowling effort ensured DC were always in check, with wickets at regular intervals preventing any major partnership from taking shape.
With this win, CSK moved to sixth place on the table with five wins and five losses from 10 matches, keeping themselves in contention with four league games still to play.
