Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face each other today (May 4) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Both these teams are at the last position in the points table. MI is at 9th position with 4 points from 9 matches, while LSG has the same number of points from 8 matches but is below MI due to poor net run rate. If MI loses in this match to be held at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, then its remaining hopes of reaching the playoffs will also be destroyed. On the other hand, the situation of LSG is also similar.
Will Bumrah lead MI to victory?
LSG team is continuously losing due to poor performance of the batsmen. Its bowlers have performed well but the batsmen have ruined their hard work. The troubles of LSG batsmen are not going to reduce even at Wankhede Stadium, because MI’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has an excellent record against everyone.
Bumrah has bowled 28 balls to Mitchell Marsh so far in T20 and has allowed only 28 runs. Also his wicket was taken once. He scored 29 runs in 26 balls against Markram and walked once. Bumrah has shown the way to the pavilion to LSG captain Rishabh Pant 7 times in IPL. Pant has been able to score only 55 runs in 46 balls against him during this encounter.
Nicholas Pooran, who is struggling with poor form, also looks helpless in front of Bumrah. Puran has been able to add only 17 runs in 22 balls against him and has been out twice. LSG would like to drop him or Markram and play Josh Inglis, who is now available for selection.
Probable playing XI of both the teams:
Lucknow Super Giants – Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant (captain and wicketkeeper), Josh Inglis/Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Himmat Singh, Mukul Chaudhary, George Linde, Mohammed Shami, Prince Yadav, Digvesh Rathi, Mohsin Khan.
Mumbai Indians – Will Jacques, Ryan Rickleton (wk), Naman Dheer, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya (c), Robin Minnes, Shardul Thakur, Trent Boult, AM Ghazanfar, Jasprit Bumrah, Raghu Sharma.
