Delhi New Traffic Rules: Government revises traffic rules from time to time; As a result, In Delhi A new set of rules has now been introduced, which have been broadened in scope and are being more strictly enforced. There is no concession regarding delay
According to a statement issued by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s office, it has been decided to take strict action against those who delay payment of traffic challan. Moreover, a new provision has been added in the rules, according to which digital reminders regarding overdue invoices will now be sent to the concerned persons on a daily basis, to ensure that there is no delay in payment. The Chief Minister has warned that any delay in payment of traffic fines will now cost citizens dearly; Consequently, payment of penalty within the prescribed period will be mandatory.
What happens if the fine is not paid?
If, for any reason, you fail to pay the invoice within the given time frame, the consequences will be dire. Violators may be delayed or temporarily suspended from accessing essential services such as payment of road tax, renewal of driving license and vehicle registration. Additionally, the vehicle associated with the overdue challan will be marked as “restricted” on the government portal, thereby prohibiting the sale, purchase or transfer of that vehicle in future. In certain cases, the court may also order the confiscation of the vehicle.
Strict action against repeat offenders
The government is now preparing to amend the ‘Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989’. According to the proposed changes, if a person violates traffic rules five or more times in a single calendar year, that person will be classified as a “serious offender”. In such cases, the driving license of the person concerned may be suspended or even revoked permanently. This shows that the government will no longer tolerate any form of negligence on the roads.

The 45-day rule and the new judicial process
As per the new rules, once a transport challan is issued, you must either pay the penalty or challenge it online within 45 days. If a person does not perform any of these actions, the currency will automatically be considered accepted. On the other hand, if you are among those who want to file an appeal in court, you will need to deposit 50% of the fine amount in advance. Moreover, after the implementation of these rules, any person who defaults in complying with the prescribed deadline will face additional penalties and legal action.
This entire system will be digital
The government has strengthened its ‘e-challan’ system. With immediate effect, traffic tickets will now be issued through surveillance cameras and automated systems; Additionally, the traffic police will continue to have the authority to issue on-the-spot citations. To ensure transparency and facilitate accountability, all records to currencies will be digitized and recorded online. At the same time, all vehicle owners are advised to keep their mobile numbers and relevant documents up-to-date, so that they receive notifications on time and can respond to them promptly.
