Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party, has accused the recent West Bengal Assembly elections of widespread fraud. He urged the Supreme Court to take notice of these allegations and to release the CCTV footage of the vote counting process to the public. During a press conference, Yadav expressed concerns that a 'multi-layered electoral mafia' involving BJP leaders, officials, and contractors would manipulate the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections after their activities in West Bengal.
Yadav claimed that significant irregularities occurred to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including the suppression of votes. He stated, 'We demand that the Supreme Court immediately take action and make the CCTV footage of the Bengal vote counting available to the nation.' He questioned why the counting process could not be broadcast live, similar to court proceedings.
Presenting data on the margins of victory and defeat from previous elections, Yadav accused the Election Commission of bias, asserting that the experiences in West Bengal were reminiscent of what the Samajwadi Party had faced in Uttar Pradesh.
When asked about his absence from campaigning in West Bengal, Yadav replied, 'I did not go anywhere for campaigning. We lacked the resources to campaign in other states. Our focus remains here in Uttar Pradesh.'
Following Congress's announcement to support actor Vijay's party, Tamilga Vetrikazhagam (TVK), after the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results, Yadav refrained from directly addressing the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's (DMK) displeasure, stating, 'Why should we disclose whom we trust and whom we do not?' The DMK had criticized Congress's move as a betrayal.
Yadav continued, 'I cannot intervene in this matter. Our current goal is Uttar Pradesh. Once the Samajwadi Party comes to power in Uttar Pradesh, the Delhi government will fall. We have defeated them in Uttar Pradesh, so their 'election mafia' will target us.'
He alleged that over 20,000 votes were cut from the electoral rolls in 143 assembly seats in West Bengal under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), resulting in the BJP winning 91 seats. 'You may recall that BJP members panicked when their votes were cut, claiming that four million votes were lost. How did they know their votes were cut? This indicates that the tactics they learned in Bengal will be even more pronounced in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections.'
Yadav asserted that the 'multi-layered electoral mafia' would collaborate to strategize for the next Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, as their actions in Bengal have been exposed. He expressed confidence in the Samajwadi Party's 'historic victory' in the upcoming state assembly elections, stating, 'In 2027, the 'PDA' (Backward, Dalit, and Minority communities) will achieve a historic win. The people of Uttar Pradesh will vote, the workers will campaign, and our organization will contest.'
Regarding the Samajwadi Party's affiliation with the 'Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance' (INDIA), Yadav confirmed that the party would maintain its connection with the alliance, emphasizing that this time the 'PDA' would oust the BJP from power.
