Less than 24 hours after the Trinamool Congress suffered a massive defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections — including Mamata Banerjee losing from her traditional stronghold Bhowanipore — the road leading to 30B Harish Chatterjee Street was opened to the public.
Locals expressed a mix of emotions. While many felt sad about the political outcome, they admitted relief at regaining easy access to their own neighbourhood. “We had to slow down, answer questions and carry ID cards every time,” said one resident.
