The issue of illegal migrants entering the country in small boats is one of the biggest crisis facing the country at the moment. It has led to a "complete systemic breakdown" as the vast majority of Channel migrants are dodging deportations. A staggering 96,002 asylum seekers from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and Eritrea have arrived in small boats between 2018 and 2025. But only 495 - 0.5% - have been sent back to these countries in the past seven years.
Everyone has an opinion on the issue and everyone wants to be informed about it so unsurprisingly it is a regular feature on the 24-hour news channels. But do you feel you are getting the full story? While it is the job of these broadcasters to give the facts how they are presented can affect people's perception of the issues. Many of these channels have various MPs on discussing it but obviously they all have their own political agenda.
In recent weeks this has been more apparent than ever in advance of the local elections.
The issue has very much been used as a stick to beat Keir Starmer with, which isn't necessarily the most balanced way to report it.
Also, the quality of the expert opinion can vary from news channel to news channel. All employ talking heads to analyse the news to some degree but in some cases they are simply giving their opinion rather than a deep analysis of the story based on studying multiples angles.
Suffice to say not all analysis was created equally and it can come with a certain degree of bias.
Therefore it is very important to be prudent when selecting which news channel you go to in order to be as well informed as possible about all the elements involved in the story.
