The lives of Krishna and Anita, a visually impaired couple from Chhattisgarh, were transformed by government schemes. Got a permanent house from PM Awas Yojana and employment from MNREGA. Ration, health and pension schemes made them self-reliant and gave them a respectable life.
Raipur. When the morale is strong and there is support from the government, then even physical challenges do not stop us from moving forward. The story of Krishna Pahadi Korwa and his wife Anita, living in Govindpur (Sargadi) village of Balrampur-Ramanujganj district of Chhattisgarh, is a living example of this. Belonging to a special backward tribe, both of them are visually impaired, but today happiness and confidence are clearly visible in their lives. This story has become a powerful example of good governance and sensitivity.
PM Awas Yojana Success Story: Got the dream of a permanent house from the Prime Minister
The biggest change in the lives of Krishna and Anita came when, on the occasion of the silver jubilee of the establishment of the state in the year 2025, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi handed them the keys of a permanent house built under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana and PM Awas Yojana (Rural). This house is not just a place to live, but for them respect, security and the beginning of a new life. After years of difficulties he got a secure roof, which gave a strong foundation to his future.
MGNREGA Employment: Step towards self-reliance from MNREGA
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA) proved to be a big help for this family for economic strength. Despite being visually impaired, Krishna and Anita did not give up. They provide water to workers at MNREGA worksites. In the year 2024-25, he got 86 days of employment, whereas in the current year so far he has worked for 14 days. With this, they are able to fulfill their daily needs on their own and are not dependent on anyone.
Government Schemes Benefit: Security cover from ration, health and pension
Many schemes of the government have given security and stability to this family.
- Getting regular ration from Antyodaya Anna Yojana
- Worries about treatment are over with Ayushman Bharat scheme
- Financial assistance is being provided through disabled pension.
All these schemes together have made their life safer and easier.
Inclusive Development Story: From Darkness to Light
Krishna and Anita's story shows that when government schemes are implemented correctly, they can make a big difference in people's lives. This is not just the story of a family, but an example of the belief that development can reach every person through good governance, transparency and right policies. His life has today become a symbol of hope, respect and self-reliance.
