Sports Sports: LIV Golf, which has been the center of controversy and major changes in the world of golf, once again seems to be in trouble. Launched four years ago with funding from the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), the league was considered the biggest shakeup in the sports world, directly challenging the dominance of the traditional PGA Tour.
Now the situation seems to be changing, as according to reports PIF has started reconsidering the future of LIV Golf by changing its investment strategy. Due to this change, there is a possibility of closure of this league by the end of 2026, due to which serious questions have been raised on its existence.
According to sources, billions of dollars have been invested in this project so far, the estimated amount of which is said to be more than 5.5 billion dollars. Despite such a large investment, the expected results and stability could not be achieved, making it part of a reassessment of the Saudi investment strategy.
LIV Golf was launched in 2021 with the aim of challenging the dominance of the PGA Tour and giving golf a modern, global and more professional look. Its first official event was held in June 2022 at the Centurion Club in Hertfordshire, England, which was seen as a major change in the history of the game.
LIV Golf attracted many big players in its early stages, causing huge controversy in the sports world. The rivalry between the PGA Tour and LIV has divided golf, leading many experts to call it “the Civil War of Golf.”
However, with time the conflict seemed to slow down and the situation stabilized to some extent, but now reports of a possible cut in funding and the project being closed by 2026 have once again created uncertainty.
Analysts believe that the future of LIV Golf depends not only on financial investment, but also on the sport’s acceptance and global competition. If this league closes, it could go down as one of the most expensive and controversial experiments in sports history.
This whole development has once again raised the question whether the structure of the game can be permanently changed by excessive money and big investment, or whether the dominance of the traditional game structure will always remain.
For now, the golf world is eyeing the Saudi investment fund’s next move, which will determine the future of LIV Golf.
