Zack Polanski humiliated as fresh questions over mystery living arrangements emerge

Zack Polanski is facing fresh questions over his living arrangements after his partner appeared to admit that they treated an east London narrowboat as their main home. Green Party leader Mr Polanski, has insisted he only stayed on the Hackney mooring "occasionally."

However, scrutiny over his housing arrangements has intensified after a series of claims and documents suggested the boat functioned as a long-term residence. The latest pressure stems from a sale advert for the narrowboat, which was still online this week. Written by Mr Polanski's partner, the advert described the vessel as their "amazing home" and stated: "We are moving to a house and so will sadly be leaving the gorgeous community behind."

That description has raised questions over whether the boat was, in practice, their main residence during the period in which Mr Polanski has said his use of it was limited. Government guidance indicates that boats can be subject to council tax if they are used as a sole or primary residence, depending on circumstances and mooring arrangements.

When asked where Mr Polanski had paid council tax over the past three years, a Green Party spokesman said: "Zack's council tax is included in the rent he pays his landlord."

The explanation is likely to fuel further questions as voters head to the polls. According to a survey released yesterday, the controversy may be taking a significant toll; Mr Polanski's personal approval ratings have begun to crash, dropping 12 points in 24 hours as public trust wavers.

This sudden dip suggests that while the Green Party is expected to make gains, the "narrowboat narrative" is resonating negatively with the electorate.

Further claims have added to the uncertainty around the arrangement. A laundrette owner near the Kingsland Basin marina told The Times he had collected washing from Mr Polanski and his partner at regular intervals between 2023 and last September, describing a routine service involving pickup and return of laundry directly from the mooring.

Mr Polanski's spokesman disputed the accuracy of parts of that account, but confirmed he had used a nearby building "as a convenient and secure place to collect his post."

Local residents have also said Mr Polanski was frequently seen in the marina area, including within recent weeks. One rower said members of a local group chat had spotted him multiple times, while another claimed to have seen him getting into a taxi about a week and a half ago.

One resident said: "I've seen him three times and I'm here twice a day every day. I thought he lived over there because I wondered why he was here all the time."

Others described him as a familiar figure in the community, noting that living on boats has become increasingly common in London amid the housing crisis.

One resident said: "I would say the demographic is changing. There's a lot more millennials who wouldn't have lived on boats if they were born 20 years earlier."

The latest questions come after a difficult week for Mr Polanski, following earlier revelations about claims he made regarding his professional background. He recently acknowledged he had "used the wrong word" when describing himself as a spokesperson for the British Red Cross, after the charity said he had not held that role.

Separate questions have also been raised about his hypnotherapy credentials, including claims he was a full member of a professional body when records suggest he held only student status.

With the Green Party riding a surge in support ahead of local elections, attention is now increasingly focused on whether the scrutiny surrounding its leader-and his plummeting poll numbers-will become a distraction from its wider electoral ambitions.
