Brighton. Manchester City on Wednesday won the Women’s Football Super League title for the first time in a decade. Arsenal, the last remaining challenger in the title race, were held to a 1–1 draw by Brighton & Hove Albion, after which Manchester City became champions.
Manchester City has scored 52 points after playing 21 out of 22 matches. Arsenal, on the other hand, needed to win all four of their remaining matches to remain hopeful of finishing top, but their dream was shattered after a draw against Brighton and the title went to North-West instead of North London.
The pressure on the Arsenal team, which was eliminated from the Champions League semi-finals after losing against OL Lyonesse last week, was clearly visible in this match. Just before the end of the first half of the match, Fuka Tsunoda scored to give Brighton the lead.
However, Norwegian midfielder Frida Manum scored an equalizing goal for Arsenal after an hour of play, but the team could not score the winning goal until the last minute.
With this result, Manchester City captured the Women’s Super League trophy after a long wait of 10 years.
