JSW-MG Motor India is gearing up to launch the Majestor SUV here. Set to rival the Fortuner, this full-size SUV’s prices will be announced in the coming weeks. The carmaker seems to have interesting product plans beyond the Majestor. These will focus heavily on new energy vehicles- electrics and hybrids. Here’s a closer look at what’s coming.

First in the line is the Majestor itself. This full-size SUV is based on a rugged ladder-frame chassis and comes with a host of off-road equipment like three differential locks, crawl control with selectable speeds, and 10 terrain modes. Powering it is a 2.0L twin-turbocharged diesel engine making 213hp and 479Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

JSW-MG describes the Majestor as ‘ India’s first D+ segment SUV’. It has butch proportions, a tall stance and imposing road presence. The cabin feels modern and is well-kitted. The Majestor will come with a long list of features- long enough to outclass its primary rival. All it now needs is a competitive price tag, which we think MG wouldn’t hesitate to give.

wuling binguo electric suv

JSW-MG currently has just one offering in the entry-level EV space- the Comet. It plans to launch the Binguo, an affordable electric hatchback, in India in the coming years. We expect it to be out by early 2027. It will be positioned as a rival to the Tata Tiago.EV and Citroen eC3- which is also where the Comet currently sits. But the Binguo will likely be larger and more practical in some way. The Comet continues to sell well, indicating strong demand for budget-friendly EVs.

The Binguo will have a sleek, modern styling and a comfortable cabin. Globally, three battery options are offered- 17.3 kWh, 31.9 kWh, and 37.9 kWh, with claimed ranges of 203km, 333 km and 410km respectively. The electric motor on the international spec is capable of producing 100 hp and 180Nm.

JSW-MG will also bring IM Motors, a premium EV brand under its Chinese parent SAIC, to the Indian market. The IM6 will be one of the first IM models to reach our shores. Expected to debut around October this year, the IM6 will be an electric SUV with a sleek, futuristic design and a tech-heavy cabin. Likely to be priced in the ballpark of Rs 60 lakh, ex-showroom, it will rival the likes of Hyundai IONIQ5, Kia EV6, BYD Sealion 7 and Tesla Model Y here.

In international markets, the IM6 is available with both Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and All Wheel Drive (AWD) configurations. The RWD version has a 408hp single motor setup while the AWD version has a dual motor arrangement with a combined output of 77hp. The AWD version is capable of doing the 0-100 kph sprint in just 3.4 seconds- sports car territory!

2026 wuling starlight 560 plug-in hybrid suv 3

Another expected launch from JSW-MG this year is the Wuling Starlight 560-based SUV duo. Both plug-in hybrid and EV versions will be brought to India. The project is now codenamed ‘520’ and test mules have already been spotted on public roads, indicating a fast-approaching market launch.

When brought to India, the Starlight 560 will stand close to the Wuling counterpart with its design. It will also become MG’s most affordable plug-in hybrid here and will be powered by a 1.5L PHEV powertrain. It couples a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine with a front-axle-mounted electric motor and a 20.5 kWh LFP battery pack. The system will have a combined output of 197hp and 230Nm. The SUV will be able to do the 0-100 kph sprint in just 9.7 seconds. It will even have a claimed all-electric range of 125km.

The all-electric (BEV) version of Starlight 560 will have a different name. It will come with a front-axle-mounted electric motor and a 56.7 kWh battery pack. The setup will produce around 136hp and 200 Nm. This product is also likely to launch around the festive season.

The ZS EV was the company’s first EV in India. JSW-MG was, in fact, one of the first movers in the electric mid-size SUV space which later rose to stellar acceptance. The ZS EV has now started showing its age and is awaiting an update. The S5 sold in global markets, is expected to replace the ZS EV here. It will have a sleek design and technology-rich cabin. Two battery packs are likely to be offered- 49 kWh and 64 kWh, with the larger unit claiming a range of around 500 km per charge.

MG astor replacement

The Astor is the internal combustion counterpart of the ZS EV. Like the EV, it will also be replaced with a new product sometime in 2027. The new SUV will be based on the SIGMA (SAIC Intelligent Global Modular Architecture) platform. It will have a modern, good-looking design and technology-rich cabin. When launched, this SUV will compete with strong rivals like the new Duster, second-generation Seltos, Tata Sierra and more.
