Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have registered a massive upset, when they defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by a margin of 9 runs via Duckworth-Lewis method.
Chasing 210 to win, a lot of was expected for Virat Kohli, especilly to give thm a great start. However, he failed miserably, as he got out in the second ball of the second over, for a two-ball duck. It was young pace sensation Prince Yadav who took his wicket. The interesting thing is that Kohli himself gave an advice to the LSG pacer, which cost him his wicket.
In an interaction with Star Sports after the match was over, Prince Yadav said that in the previous match between LSG and RCB in Benglauru, which the latter won, had advised him to not abandon his length as long as the ball is moving off that length. This was the advice that he followed, and it resulted in Kohli getting clean bowled by him.
"That was exactly the plan. In fact, after the last match, I was speaking with Virat Bhaiya (elder brother) and he himself told me this... we talked a lot after that match and he was telling me that as long as the ball is moving off the length, you shouldn't abandon your length. That is exactly what I did, and I got the result in the form of a wicket," Yadav said.
Prince Yadav became just the second bowler after Dhawal Kulkarni, to clean bowl Virat Kohli for a duck in the IPL. In fact, he became the first bowler in 3301 days to dismiss him for a duck in the IPL.
RCB Suffer Back-To-Back Defeats
RCB suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time since 2024, while LSG ended a six-match losing run while also winning their first game at home after eight losses. The Super Giants won the fixture by nine runs in a dramatic finish after multiple rain breaks forced the game to be reduced to a 19-over affair.
Chasing 213, RCB lost the wickets of Jacob Bethell (4) and Virat Kohli (0) early. Rajat Patidar (61 of 31) and Devdutt Padikkal (34 of 25) put up a 95-run partnership, but then the visitors lost three wickets in a row. Tim David (40 of 17) put up a valiant effort while Krunal Pandya (28 of 16) also hit a few big shots after a slow start.
Prince Yadav was the star of the show by dismissing Kohli, Padikkal and Jitesh Sharma. Meanwhile, Shahbaz Ahmed dismissed both Patidar and David, who threatened to take the game away from the Super Giants. Prince bowled four overs and finished with figures of 3-33 while Shahbaz bowled three overs and finished with 2-33.
Mitchell Marsh hit the second IPL century of his career. He reached the milestone in just 49 balls. Rishabh Pant (32 of 10) played an important cameo. Nicholas Pooran made a 28-ball 33. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0-34) bowled an economical spell for the defending champions. Josh Hazlewood (1-49), Krunal Pandya (1-31), and Rasidk Salam Dar (1-51) took one wicket each.
