BCCI New Guidelines IPL 2026: The Indian Premier League 2026 is currently underway, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a significant directive. In light of certain irregularities involving IPL franchises and players, the BCCI has released a stringent advisory. To ensure the safety of players and support staff, strict regulations regarding hotel access and visitor entry have been enforced.
What prompted the BCCI to make such a significant decision just as the IPL season reaches its peak? BCCI Secretary Devjeet Saikia provided insights into this matter.
Reasons Behind the New Advisory
According to Saikia, during the IPL 2026 season, it was observed that some 'unauthorized' individuals were traveling with teams, gaining access to hotels, team buses, and even entering players' rooms. This behavior constitutes a violation of anti-corruption protocols. Consequently, the BCCI has taken this crucial step.

With the introduction of these new guidelines, no individual, regardless of their relationship with players or staff, will be allowed entry into hotel rooms without a permission letter and prior notification to the team manager. Additionally, relatives and guests will only be permitted to meet in public areas such as lounges or lobbies. Access to players' rooms will now require a permission letter.
Addressing Risks Like Honeytrap
High-profile players participate in the IPL, necessitating heightened vigilance regarding their safety. During the IPL season, the BCCI must also be prepared for risks such as honeytraps. This decision was made to ensure the safety of players associated with IPL franchises and to avoid any potential controversies.
Change in Playoff and Final Match Venues
Furthermore, the venues for the IPL 2026 playoffs and final have been selected. The first playoff will take place in Dharamshala, while the second and third matches will be held in New Chandigarh. The final match is scheduled for the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Last year, RCB emerged as the champion, which typically would have meant one playoff and the final match occurring in Bengaluru. However, due to certain reasons, the decision was made to shift one match to New Chandigarh and the final to Ahmedabad.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association had requested an additional 10,000 tickets beyond the permitted 15% limit, violating the Supreme Court's orders regarding IPL regulations and ticket distribution. As a result, the venue change was deemed necessary, involving several IPL franchises and players.
