Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has proved to be very disappointing so far for Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Akshar Patel. The statistics have presented such a picture of his batting, which has brought him in the list of an unwanted record. The situation has become such that if he does not score runs from his bat in the coming matches, then this record will be counted among the worst captaincy performances in IPL history.

The bat did not even work against KKR

Axar Patel had a good opportunity to improve his form in the match played against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday, but he could not take advantage of it. Facing 22 balls, he scored only 11 runs. He certainly made some impact in bowling and took one wicket for 27 runs in 4 overs, but his batting once again came under question.

Average reached very bad level

After this match, Akshar Patel’s statistics became even worse. In IPL 2026, he has been able to score only 44 runs in 8 innings of 11 matches played so far. His batting average has dropped to 6.28, while his highest score has been 26 not out. This performance as a captain has become a matter of concern for Delhi Capitals.

Unwanted record recorded in IPL history

In the list of captains who have played at least 7 innings, Axar Patel has now become the captain with the second worst batting average in a season of IPL. Below him, only the name of former Rajasthan Royals captain late Shane Warne is recorded, whose average was only 2.00 in the 2010 season.

Delhi Capitals will be hoping that their captain makes a comeback with the bat soon, as the decisive round of the tournament is getting closer.

Captains with the worst batting average in an IPL season:

average captain season
2.00 shane warne 2010
6.28 Akshar Patel 2026*
11.08 eoin morgan 2021
12.00 Harbhajan Singh 2012
