Nowadays, having long and beautiful nails has become a part of fashion. But those who have ever tried to operate a phone with long nails know how difficult it is. Repeatedly pressing wrong buttons while typing, difficulty in scrolling the screen and bending fingers in strange ways become common problems. Especially women who have acrylic nails, gel extensions or naturally long nails face this problem more.
But the happy thing is that now scientists have tried to find an interesting solution to this problem. Yes, researchers of the American Chemical Society (ACS) have presented the idea of making such a transparent nail polish, through which you will be able to use the phone or laptop easily even with long nails. Let us know about it in this article.
After all, why can't the phone work with nails?
Women with long nails often face the problem that the mobile phone keeps on working when touched too often. This happens because most smartphones work on 'capacitive touchscreen' technology. This screen detects the electrical conductivity present in our skin. When we touch the screen with a finger, the electric field of the screen changes and the phone recognizes that touch. But long nails do not conduct electricity, so when a person directly touches the screen with the nail, the phone cannot recognize that touch. For this reason, people with long nails often use the edge of their fingers or bend their hands at strange angles to use the phone.
How will this 'smart' nail polish work?
However, now scientists have discovered such a smart nail polish, which will enable you to use the phone comfortably even with long nails. This research was done at Centenary College in Louisiana, America. Chemistry student Manasi Desai and Professor Joshua Lawrence worked together on this technology. In this research, scientists tested more than 50 substances and many types of transparent nail polish formulas. Ultimately they got good results in chemicals like Taurine and Alcoholamine.
This nail polish works with the help of special “acid-base chemistry”. In this, small charged particles i.e. protons move from one place to another, due to which slight electrical conductivity is created in the nail. This conductivity helps the phone screen to recognize touch. Let us tell you that in the initial test of the research, this polish was successful in activating the smartphone screen.
It will take time to reach the market
However, scientists have said that this nail polish will not work for long. Its effect lasted only for a few hours. Apart from this, there are also questions regarding safety and health. Taurine is generally considered safe, but some chemicals, such as ethanolamine, are not completely safe for daily use. Therefore, scientists are now looking for safe and durable options that can work for a long time. If scientists make this nail polish completely successful, then in future people with long nails will not have any problem in using their phones.
