(AI can reduce your thinking power)

Artificial Intelligence: Nowadays, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a part of our everyday lives. Whether writing emails, needing ideas for a project, or getting help with homework, people are quickly turning to AI chatbots. Tools like ChatGPT, Cloud, and Gemini provide answers within seconds, saving both time and effort.

But new research has pointed to a significant danger hidden behind this convenience. According to the study, relying on AI for even just a few minutes can impact a person's ability to think independently and solve problems.

What did the research reveal?

The research was based on three large experiments conducted with 1,222 people. Participants were given math and reading comprehension questions. Some were allowed to use AI, while others were required to solve the questions without any AI support. Those who used AI initially performed better, with faster answers and higher scores. However, the real difference was seen when researchers removed AI access.

The performance of participants who used AI suddenly declined. In a math test, those without AI got about 73 percent of the questions correctly, while those who relied on AI only managed about 57 percent. A similar pattern was observed in the reading comprehension test.

The biggest impact was on the habit of thinking.

According to the researchers, the real concern isn't just low scores. People using AI tended to give up on difficult questions more quickly, weakening their persistence. The study found that after just 10 minutes of AI assistance, people began to give up more quickly than without AI. The researchers described this as akin to the Boiling Frog Effect. This means the effect may seem small initially, but gradually, a person's tendency to think deeply and work hard on their own may diminish.

Not all AI use is harmful.

However, the research also revealed an interesting finding. Those who asked AI for direct answers experienced the greatest decline. However, those who used AI only for hints, guidance, or explanations experienced significantly less negative impact. This means that if AI is used as a "teacher," it can aid learning. However, if AI is used directly for every task, the brain may gradually become accustomed to shortcuts.

real problem, no, it is our habit

The biggest message from this study is that AI itself isn't the enemy. The danger begins when humans become completely dependent on it for every little thing. AI can save time, simplify tasks, and teach us new things, but if we abandon the habit of thinking and struggling for ourselves, it could impact our mental capacity in the long run.
