I tried the new viral £2 M&S custard cream cookie - 1 thing lets it down

M&S has done it again. They've released another decadent sweet treat that looks absolutely irresistible. The thick, chewy Chunked N' Loaded Custard Cream Cookie has just landed in stores, and shoppers are already obsessed.

The launch post has already received more than 10,000 likes since Wednesday, and people are rushing to stores to snap them up before they sell out, as M&S becomes the official sweat treat destination of 2026. Its Dunked N' Loaded Custard Cream doughnut reportedly caused queues outside stores in April, and foodies cannot stop talking about the new Chunked N' Loaded cookie series.

The Salted Caramel and Pretzel Cookie went down like a storm when it launched, and the Pistachio one with a cream cheese-style centre has become a cult favourite.

Marks' describes the newest addition as golden, buttery and enriched with cream powder, studded with generous chunks of M&S Custard Cream biscuit, with irresistible chew and texture in every bite.

It is something you would normally see in a farmers' market, stuffed with chunks, incredibly thick and drizzled in chocolate, just to top off the decadence.

So, I paid two British pounds to see what all the hype was about. The verdict? I do not get it. For context, I love M&S. Its snack selection is always so creative, you can taste the quality in its to-go options, and the pre-made dishes are delicious.

But this cookie was a flop in my eyes. It was tasty, but I was expecting something a little extra or special for £2.10, when they sell a five-pack of chocolate chunk cookies for £3.25, which are a solid choice.

The pretzel cookie has a gooey centre, just like the Pistachio one, but this was just biscuit upon biscuit. A creamy custardy centre would take it to a whole new level and warrant the price, just like the others in the range.

The only difference that I can see between the standard five-pack and this cookie is that the custard cream one is twice as thick and drizzled in chocolate.

Granted, the cookie is soft, it breaks apart rather than cracks, and it is loaded with chunks, but the flavour to me is essentially the same as their normal bakery ones. While M&S normally delivers, this time, I would grab the five-pack instead.
