Nearly 100 days after Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Arizona home, investigators report significant advancements in the case. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared with media outlets that the investigation, which is being treated as a potential abduction, is progressing. When asked about the status of the investigation, Sheriff Nanos confirmed, "We are making progress," and described the recent developments as "really great," although he withheld specific details.
The case has garnered national attention, particularly because Nancy is the mother of Savannah Guthrie, a co-host on NBC's Today show. The ongoing mystery surrounding her disappearance has intensified public interest, especially with Mother's Day approaching in the U.S. Nancy was last seen in late January at her home in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson. Authorities believe she was abducted, but no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
Initially, family members speculated that Nancy might have simply walked away, but Sheriff Nanos clarified in a February press conference that this was not the case. Nancy was last seen on January 31 after visiting her daughter, returning home around 9:48 PM with her son-in-law. The following day, her family reported her missing when she did not show up for church. Deputies noted unusual activity on surveillance footage, including movement outside the house and a disconnected camera. A ransom note demanding bitcoin was later discovered, detailing Nancy's clothing at the time of her disappearance. Blood found outside her home was confirmed to be hers.
In the wake of her disappearance, the FBI offered rewards totaling up to $100,000 for information leading to her safe return. Authorities released surveillance images of a masked figure near her home and are exploring the possibility of an accomplice. DNA evidence collected has yet to yield any confirmed suspects. One glove found nearby contained DNA from an unidentified male, but there was no match in national databases. Another glove, initially thought to be related to the case, was traced back to a restaurant worker with no connection to the investigation. Additionally, specialized tracking technology has been employed to detect signals from Guthrie's pacemaker. In March, Savannah Guthrie expressed her family's distress in a public interview, urging anyone with information to step forward. She returned to the Today show in April, emphasizing her commitment to finding her mother.
