Haryana civic elections: Voting continues in many cities including Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat, direct contest between BJP and Congress.

Haryana civic elections:Voting continues for municipal corporation and other urban body elections in Haryana on Sunday. Voting started from 8 am in many major cities of the state, which will continue till 6 pm. Voters are exercising their franchise for mayor and ward councilors in Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat municipal corporations.

The political atmosphere regarding these elections is very heated. The main contest in the municipal elections is believed to be between the ruling BJP and Congress. This is the first major electoral contest after the assembly elections, in which both the parties are face to face.

More than 8.70 lakh voters will decide in 7 cities

More than 8.70 lakh voters are voting to elect the local government in a total of seven cities of the state. A total of 826 polling stations have been set up for the elections, where votes are being cast through EVMs.

However, this time VVPAT is not being used in the voting process, due to which voters will not be able to see in favor of which candidate their vote has been registered.

Mayor elections in Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat

Voting is being held for mayor and ward councilors in Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat municipal corporations. Apart from this, votes are being cast for the posts of President and Councilor in Rewari Municipal Council.

At the same time, elections for city committee members are also being held in Sampla of Rohtak, Dharuhera of Rewari and Uklana of Hisar.

Election results will come on May 13

The results of Haryana civic elections will be declared on May 13. Regarding the electoral contest, the eyes of political parties are especially focused on the vote bank of urban areas.

The political prestige of Chief Minister Nayab Saini and former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda is also considered to be at stake in this election.

By-elections also underway in many councils

By-elections are also being conducted for one ward each of Municipal Council and Municipal Committees in Tohana, Jhajjar, Rajound, Tarawadi, Kanaina and Sadhaura.

State Election Commissioner Devendra Singh Kalyan said that all necessary arrangements have been made to conduct the elections in a free, fair and transparent manner.

Special arrangements for disabled and senior citizens

Help desks, clear signboards and other necessary arrangements have been made for the convenience of voters at polling stations.

Facilities like ramps and wheelchairs have also been provided to give priority to disabled voters, senior citizens and women, so that the voting process can be completed smoothly.
