Bengaluru: Promising Odisha shuttler Tanvi Patri clinched the Girls’ Singles title at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Junior (U-19) Ranking badminton tournament in Bengaluru.
In the final, Tanvi outplayed local girl and top-seeded Shaina Manimuthu 21-17, 21-8 on Sunday.
The success helped 15-year-old Tanvi earn a berth in the Indian squad that will take part in the Junior (U-19) Asian Championships in Japan in June.
Despite being a shuttler at the junior level, Tanvi has already shown remarkable skill, consistency and poise in the senior category on the national stage.
In December, she became the youngest-ever Women’s Singles finalist at the senior nationals held at Vijayawada. Tanvi stormed into the title round of the 87th Senior National championships before losing to local favourite Surya Charishma Tamiri. Tanvi won the first game only to lose the next two in the final.
