Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step towards promoting goat rearing to increase employment and income in rural areas. Under the new scheme of the government, thousands of poor and needy families of the state will be linked to goat rearing by giving huge grants.
Agricultural laborers, landless families and marginal farmers are expected to get the biggest benefit from this scheme. According to the new guidelines of the government, up to 90 percent subsidy will be given to more than 2,000 goat farmers this year. The objective of the scheme is to provide better means of income to rural families at low cost.
You can start goat farming with just Rs 6 thousand
The government has fixed the total cost of one unit of goat rearing at Rs 60 thousand. In this, the beneficiary will have to spend only Rs 6 thousand, while the remaining Rs 54 thousand will be given by the government as a grant. One unit will include one goat and five goats. The government believes that this business started on a small scale can prove helpful in increasing the income of rural families in the future.
Women will get special priority
According to the guidelines issued, women will be given special priority in the scheme. Apart from this, three percent disabled people will also be included in the total beneficiaries. The objective of the government is to make the economically weaker sections self-reliant.
Priority in selection to trained people
The government has also clarified that those who have taken training from Sheep-Goat Husbandry Training Center or Central Goat Research Institute will get preference in the selection process. This will help in promoting animal husbandry in a better way under the scheme and prepare the beneficiaries for successful business.
Goats of improved breed will have to be purchased
Under the scheme, beneficiaries will have to purchase goats of improved breeds like Barbari, Beetle and Black Bengal. The government has given instructions that these animals should be purchased from government farms on priority basis. If there is no availability, then procurement can be done from the local market under the supervision of the Regional Veterinary Officer.
Insurance and transportation facility also included
The grant amount includes not only the purchase of animals but also the arrangements for their insurance and transportation. Out of Rs 54 thousand given by the government, Rs 49 thousand will be sent directly to the beneficiary’s account, while the remaining amount will be used for one year’s insurance, transportation and purchase of essential goods.
