Actor-turned-politician Vijay officially began his new political journey on Sunday after taking oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in a grand ceremony held in Chennai. Soon after the swearing-in event, congratulatory wishes poured in from across the film and political industries. Among them was actor R. Madhavan, who shared a heartfelt message for Vijay and revealed the one thing that impressed him the most during the ceremony.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the presence of senior political leaders, party workers, celebrities and thousands of supporters. Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar had formally invited Vijay to form the government after appointing him as the Chief Minister on Saturday.

While congratulating Vijay on Instagram, Dhurandhar 2 actor wished him success and strength for his new responsibilities. The actor said he hoped Vijay’s tenure would be rewarding and impactful for the state. He also expressed pride in seeing his “brother” take charge as Chief Minister.
However, what stood out most to Madhavan was Vijay reciting the entire oath from memory. The actor noted that Vijay did not rely on a written script or paper during the ceremony. Calling it a reflection of dedication, Madhavan described the moment as a “testimony” to Vijay’s commitment towards his new role.
"So very impressed that you memorise the entire swearing an oath. I did not read from a paper. That is testimony of your commitment already."
About Vijay and Madhavan's work front
The political rise of Vijay has been one of the biggest talking points in Tamil Nadu over the past few months. His party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, secured 108 seats in the Assembly elections. However, the effective tally came down to 107 because Vijay himself won from two constituencies.
The TVK-led alliance later crossed the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly with support from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML legislators. Altogether, the alliance secured the backing of 120 MLAs-elect. Governor Arlekar has now directed Vijay to prove his majority on the Assembly floor by May 13.
Vijay’s swearing-in also marks a major shift in his career. After ruling Tamil cinema for decades, the actor is now expected to focus entirely on politics. Fans are currently waiting for Jana Nayagan, which is widely believed to be his final film project before stepping away from cinema full-time. The movie, however, is reportedly facing delays related to certification. Producer will announce the release date soon.
Meanwhile, Madhavan is also enjoying a successful phase in his acting career. His latest film, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, emerged as one of the biggest successes of his career after its release earlier this year. The actor also has the upcoming Tamil series Legacy in the pipeline, continuing his strong run. Stay tuned!
