Udupi/Mangaluru, May 11: Coastal districts continued to experience massive crowds and heavy traffic congestion on Sunday. Due to summer vacations and a series of auspicious events, thousands of tourists from other districts and neighboring states have flocked to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
Significant devotee rushes were seen across major religious centers in both districts. Long queues were observed since early morning at famous shrines such as Kukke Subrahmanya, Dharmasthala, Kateel, Mulki Bappanadu, Mangaladevi, and Polali in Dakshina Kannada, as well as the Sri Krishna Math, Kollur, Hattiyangadi, and Anegudde in Udupi district. Devotees had to wait for hours not only for darshan but also to partake in the Anna Prasadam.
Sri Krishna Math: 30,000 devotees visit
The Sri Krishna Math in Udupi witnessed an immense gathering. On Sunday, more than 30,000 devotees offered prayers to Lord Sri Krishna and received Anna Prasadam, according to Dr. Udayakumar Saralathaya, Dewan of the Paryaya Sri Shiroor Math. The parking area at Rajangana was completely packed with vehicles.
Traffic Jams
With almost all marriage halls booked for weddings and other ceremonies, severe traffic congestion was reported at Karavali Junction, Bannanje, City Bus Stand, Kalsanka, and around Car Street in Udupi. The number of pedestrians in Tenkupete and Badagupete also saw a significant rise.
Tourist spots overwhelmed
In addition to temples, famous tourist destinations such as Malpe, St. Mary’s Island, Kaup, Padubidri, Maravanthe, Panambur, and Tannirbhavi beaches were visited by thousands of tourists throughout the day.
