New Delhi: United States forward Christian Pulisic missed AC Milan’s Serie A clash against Atalanta BC after suffering a lower back injury in training, raising big concerns ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026. He reportedly felt discomfort during Friday’s training session and was ruled out before Sunday’s clash. Italian media reports suggested that the American will undergo medical tests to assess the extent of the injury.
The 27-year-old has also been struggling with form, failing to score in his last 17 league matches since December 28. He has also failed to score in his last eight appearances for the USA. AC Milan suffered a 2-3 home defeat against Atlanta, hurting their chances for a UEFA Champions League (UCL) qualification.
They are placed fourth in the Serie A points table, and are level on points with fifth-placed Roma. Despite the injury setback, Pulisic is not expected to miss the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
USA’s FIFA World Cup 2026 schedule
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the biggest edition in the history of the tournament, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches across 16 host cities of the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament will begin on June 11 and conclude with the final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New York.
A total of 48 national teams will compete in the tournament, with 32 teams qualifying for the knockout rounds. FIFA expanded the tournament from 32 to 48 teams to increase global participation and make the competition more inclusive.
The USA will face Senegal and Germany in friendly matches before opening their World Cup campaign against Paraguay on June 12. They will take on Australia a week later in Seattle and conclude the group stage against Turkey on June 25.
The expanded tournament is expected to attract millions of fans from around the world, making it one of the largest sporting events in history. Several iconic stadiums across North America have been upgraded to meet FIFA standards ahead of the competition. The 2026 World Cup will also mark the first time that three nations are jointly hosting the tournament.
