Rita Wilson has reflected on her iconic role as Chrissy DeWitt in the 1995 film Now and Then, saying the character still holds meaning for audiences decades later.

In a recent interview, the 69-year-old actress shared her thoughts on what Chrissy might be like in 2026. She joked that the character would likely have embraced ageing, moved on from her youthful style phase, and could now be a “fun grandmother” who has experienced major life changes, including possibly divorce.

Wilson said the character would have “gone grey by now” and moved past her earlier personality traits, but would still carry the same warmth and emotional depth that made her memorable in the film.

She also expressed affection for the movie itself, describing it as a rare female-led coming-of-age story that focused on friendship, growth, and shared experiences between women.

Wilson noted that Now and Then continues to resonate with younger audiences today. She said many viewers who watched it in their youth are now introducing it to their own daughters, keeping its legacy alive across generations.

Released in 1995, the film followed the story of four childhood friends reflecting on their past and the bond they shared while growing up. It featured an ensemble cast including Christina Ricci, Demi Moore, Rosie O’Donnell, Thora Birch, and Gaby Hoffmann, alongside Rita Wilson.
