Chandauli, 12 May. Psycho killer Gurpreet Singh (45), who committed three sensational murders in just 26 hours by entering moving trains and hospitals in Chandauli and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, was killed in a police encounter late on Monday night. Chandauli Superintendent of Police (SP) Akash Patel, while confirming the encounter, said that the police team had taken the accused to ‘recreate the crime scene’ to connect the links of the incident. Meanwhile, the vicious criminal snatched the government pistol of a police officer and tried to escape while firing. The accused was hit by bullets in his head and chest in retaliatory firing by the police in self-defense. He was immediately taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.

The killer was a soldier, used to shoot directly at the temple

Gurpreet Singh, 45, a native of Amritsar, retired from the Indian Army six years ago. After retiring from the army, he had no permanent residence and had become addicted to excessive drinking. The murder pattern of the accused was extremely gruesome and uniform – he would point the pistol directly at the victim’s temple and shoot without any major controversy. He committed these three dreadful incidents in 26 hours….

  1. First murder (Sunday, 7 am): A youth was shot dead on his temple inside a passenger train in Chandauli.
  2. Second murder (Sunday, 2 am): Another passenger killed inside Jammu Tawi Express train in Varanasi area.
  3. Third murder (Monday, 8:30 am): Entered a private hospital in Chandauli and shot a helpless woman lying on the bed with a gun at her temple.

Surprised the police by saying “I am the king of the mind…”

On Monday morning, when Gurpreet was trying to run away after killing a woman in the hospital, the angry crowd present there caught him and beat him severely, after which he was handed over to the police. The police first got the accused injured after being beaten by the mob. After regaining consciousness, when the police asked him the reason for shooting the innocent woman, he replied in a very cold and cynical manner, “I am the king of the mind. After drinking alcohol, I do not remain conscious. Whatever comes to my mind while roaming around, I do the same. I have killed not just one, but two-three people.” According to PDDU Nagar CO Arun Kumar Singh, from the initial investigation and interrogation it was clear that the accused was a victim of severe mental disturbance (psycho killer tendencies) and was turning violent and killing people after drinking excessive alcohol.
