Guwahati: In a key announcement ahead of Assam’s new government formation, Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed his initial cabinet choices and the NDA’s pick for Assembly Speaker, setting the stage for a star-studded oath-taking ceremony today.

Posting on X, Sarma disclosed that Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro, and Ajanta Neog will join him as ministers during the May 12 event in Guwahati. “Happy to announce that the following four colleagues of mine will take oath as Ministers tomorrow along with me in the august presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji -Shri Rameswar Teli, Shri Atul Bora, Shri Charan Boro Smt. Ajanta Neog. I am also happy to share that Shri Ranjit Das, Hon’ble MLA, will be our candidate for the post of Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly,” he wrote.

The ceremony will draw top NDA brass, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and leaders from other NDA-ruled states.

This comes after the NDA’s dominant win of 102 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly, led by BJP’s 82 seats, with AGP and BPF contributing 10 each—paving the way for a third straight term.

Sarma emphasized growth priorities, adding: “My heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all of them. Together, we will continue to work with full dedication for a stronger, more developed and prosperous Assam.”

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal echoed the optimism, describing the milestone as a “great day for the people of Assam.” Addressing reporters, he said: “With the support of the people of Assam, NDA for the third term is going to form the government under the leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. This is a great day, and we are really thankful to the people of Assam. I’m sure that in this third term of NDA, Assam is going to become one of the most developed states in the country.”

Sonowal highlighted the event’s significance: “In tomorrow’s oath-taking ceremony, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with senior Council of Ministers from the Government of India and also the Hon’ble Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of different states, the NDA government, they are going to participate in tomorrow’s event. So this is a great day, and we are really thankful to the people of Assam because whatever faith, whatever love they have given, it is unique.
