Upon taking office, Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister Vijay has swiftly introduced a series of impactful decisions aimed at transforming the state's social framework and security system. In a move to fulfill the promises made in the election manifesto, CM Vijay announced two landmark directives on Monday, focusing primarily on enhancing women's safety and securing a brighter future for the youth. On Tuesday, he ordered the closure of 717 government TASMAC liquor retail outlets located within a 500-meter radius of places of worship, educational institutions, and bus stations, to be executed within two weeks.
Establishment of Anti-Drug Force for Women's Safety
Earlier on Monday, Vijay issued a decisive directive to form a dedicated "Singa Pen Sirappu Anti-Drug Force" across the state to ensure women's safety. He emphasized that this new unit would guarantee prompt responses to complaints related to women's safety. Following his orders, the state police department has officially established this force.
In line with a crucial promise from the Chief Minister's election manifesto, this newly formed unit has been entrusted with several significant responsibilities. These include protecting women and youth from falling prey to substance abuse and taking stringent actions against drug trafficking.
Comprehensive Approach to Combat Sexual Crimes
This force will also operate in a coordinated and statewide manner to prevent sexual crimes against women. A notable feature of this unit is the inclusion of a substantial number of female police officers, who have been granted special powers to take decisive action against offenders. Additionally, this force is tasked with conducting awareness programs in schools, colleges, and public spaces to promote understanding and vigilance regarding women's safety.
