Kris Marshall says 'I've had to calm down' as he addresses 'terrible and rude' issue

Beyond Paradise star Kris Marshall said he has a "terrible trait" away from the cameras that his late mother used to scold him for. Known to viewers as DI Humphrey Goodman, the actor has played the role in both Death in Paradise and spin-off Beyond Paradise, which is filmed in Devon and Cornwall.

Recognised for portraying a warm, quirky, socially awkward and observant detective, Kris confessed he has a "terrible" tendency in reality that can appear "rude".

Speaking to My Weekly Magazine, the 53-year-old said: "I've really had to learn to calm down because my mind is always working 100 miles an hour and I have a terrible trait of finishing other people's sentences.

"I remember my dear late mum saying to me, 'Don't jump into other people's conversations - it's rude'."

Addressing his career and family life, the actor continued by saying he takes pleasure in sailing and surfing when not on set, though he has grown more "risk-averse" since fatherhood.

Kris has been married to Hannah Dodkin since 2012 and the pair have two children, Thomas, 13, and Elsie, 10.

He shared with the publication: "Now I'm a dad, I've become more risk-averse but I still enjoy surfing and sailing and I like to do my own stunts when filming."

The most recent series of Beyond Paradise reached an emotional end last week and, according to Kris, the next season is already in the works. Speaking recently about the programme and its future during an appearance on Chris Evans' TFI Friday Unplugged, he said: "It's quite a mad little show, and I love it."

In response, the presenter said: "We're in season four now, 5,6,7 (seasons), that's probably where it's gonna be and where it's gonna go, and you'll all be happy at the end of maybe six series. Do you think they could really stir it up in season five?".

Kris then appeared to confirm that production for series five had already commenced, though remained tight-lipped on further details.

When questioned about the programme's longevity, he continued: "Well, I mean, how long can a marriage last? I am kidding, I am kidding. I am not gonna give away spoilers, they haven't even written it yet."

While the programme is absent from screens, one fan has put forward the notion that he would be ideally suited to portray Arthur Weasley in HBO's forthcoming Harry Potter adaptation.

One individual posted on Reddit: "The right age, funny, definitely capable of that wide-eyed enthusiasm, but as his tone on Death in Paradise shows, more than capable of handling the more dramatic moments. Kris Marshall would be the perfect Mr Weasley."

Another added: "This might be my new favourite Arthur-fancast!" while another concurred: "He would be absolutely perfect."

The full fourth series of Beyond Paradise is available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
