The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to issue new franchise guidelines because multiple IPL 2026 incidents created safety issues for the board. The advisory documents which teams and players received explained the dangers of targeted compromise and honey-trapping schemes. The board established stricter guidelines which govern owner behavior and vaping incidents and Player and Match Official Area (PMOA) rule violations. IPL 2026 has already seen multiple controversies which include Riyan Parag and Yuzvendra Chahal's vaping incident and an RR manager's phone usage in the dugout which forced the board to take strict action against these breaches.
A BCCI source told news agency ANI on Tuesday that the board is currently negotiating with franchises to prevent future incidents while declaring that IPL 2026 has experienced significant discipline problems up to this point. The BCCI issued these guidelines after the IPL’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) reported several irregularities during the tournament, which included unauthorized individuals entering team hotels and dugouts and other restricted areas.
BCCI source confirmed to ANI: “We are forced to issue guidelines in this season of IPL. We saw many incidents which makes the board uncomfortable. We are in talks with IPL franchises to ensure no untoward incidents happen again. There has been lots of indiscipline in this IPL.”
The advisory contains its most important directive which forbids all unauthorized people from entering player hotel rooms. The new regulations prohibit all individuals from entering player or support staff rooms without the team manager's written consent.
BCCI’s new hotel room rules:
| Visitors in rooms | Strictly prohibited without written approval |
| Meetings with guests | Allowed only in public hotel areas |
| Team hotel exits | Mandatory intimation to SLO/TIO |
| Accreditation cards | Must be displayed at all times |
| Dugout interaction | Owners barred from approaching players |
The advisory investigates franchise owners and officials who allegedly breached Player and Match Officials Area (PMOA) rules during actual match play. The board issued a specific warning to owners which prohibited them from entering dugouts or making physical contact with players or showing any form of interaction with team personnel during matches. The organization investigated player vaping incidents which emerged during the current season.

| PMOA breach | Suspension/disqualification |
| Prohibited substances | Referral to law enforcement |
| Repeat offence | IPL ban |
