New Delhi:Kia India is preparing to launch the Syros EV in August this year, according to reports from Autocar India. It will be the brand’s smallest and most affordable EV in India, and will take on the likes of Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. Coming as an ICE to EV conversion, the Syros EV will, of course, have some EV-specific styling and feature updates.
The Syros EV has already been spied on the Indian roads a few times, and even though the test mules were heavily camouflaged, it seemed quite unchanged from the ICE variant. It is likely to come with the same quirky styling with the boxy silhouette and tallboy stance. Spy shots also show a charging flap towards the passenger-side front fender; it is expected to come with unique bumpers and even distinctive alloy wheels.
It is likely to follow the Carens Clavis and its electric counterpart in terms of design.
On the inside, the dashboard too will be mostly the same. The feature list could be similar, but could include more things like vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) capabilities. However, it is to be seen if the Syros EV will come with ADAS, after Kia removed it from the ICE Syros for the 2026 model. It could come with EV-specific displays and different trim and upholstery.
Kia Syros EV: Expected powertrainKia Syros will be coming on the same K1 platform as the ICE-powered Syros, and even though the details remain under wraps, it will be a front-wheel-drive setup. Internationally, the Inster EV also rides on the K1 platform, which comes with 42 kWh and 49 kWh battery packs. The India-spec Syros EV could get battery packs of similar capacity.
While it was earlier expected to come in the first quarter of 20256, the Syros EV has been delayed by about six months. It will still be arriving with a year and a half of the ICE-powered version’s launch and is expected to be priced between Rs 15-20 lakh. With EV demands on the rise, and particularly for compact-sized electric cars, the Syros EV does make sense for Kia.
