Crimson Desert gives players a massive open world filled with dangerous enemies, hidden locations, and unique mounts. While horses are the standard way to travel, many players want something far more intimidating. That is where the Bear Mount comes in. Riding a giant bear through enemy camps is one of the most satisfying experiences in the game, and it quickly became one of the most talked-about features among players.

However, getting a bear mount is not as simple as buying a saddle or completing a basic quest. The process involves tracking down wild bears, surviving brutal fights, and reacting quickly during the taming sequence. If you fail, the bear can kill you within seconds. This guide explains exactly how to unlock and use a bear mount in Crimson Desert.

Where To Find Bears In Crimson Desert

Bears can be found in several wilderness regions across the game world, but the easiest early-game location is the Hernand Highlands. Many players head there shortly after beginning the main story because the area contains reliable bear spawns and fewer high-level enemies.

You will usually find bears wandering through forest paths, sleeping near caves, or guarding certain elevated areas. Some stronger versions also appear in snowy northern regions later in the game.

Popular bear locations include:

  • Hernand Highlands
  • Greenfield Highlands
  • Pailune forests
  • Northern snow regions
  • Areas near Abyss Nexus checkpoints

If you are searching for a bear early in the game, stick to the southern parts of Hernand Highlands. The enemies there are easier to handle, and the route is safer for beginners.

How To Tame A Bear

Unlike horse taming, bear taming is entirely combat-based. You do not sneak behind the animal or feed it items. Instead, you must weaken it during battle without killing it.

Once a bear notices you, it immediately becomes hostile. Bears attack aggressively with heavy swipes, lunges, and grab attacks that can remove huge portions of your health bar. Before attempting the fight, make sure you carry healing supplies and repair your gear.

Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Find a wild bear in the open world.
  2. Let the bear engage you in combat.
  3. Attack it repeatedly until it becomes exhausted.
  4. Watch for the Ride prompt to appear.
  5. Press the correct button immediately.

Timing is extremely important. The mounting window only lasts a few seconds. If you hesitate for too long, the bear recovers and attacks again. Continuing the fight after missing the prompt may accidentally kill the animal, forcing you to wait for another spawn.

Many players recommend making a manual save before the fight begins. That way, you can reload instantly if the taming attempt fails.

How Bear Mounts Work

After successfully mounting the bear, you can ride it around the surrounding area and even use it during combat. Bear mounts are powerful and surprisingly effective against groups of enemies.

While riding the bear, you can:

  • Charge through enemy camps
  • Use claw attacks against groups
  • Knock smaller enemies backward
  • Travel through rough terrain quickly
  • Intimidate hostile NPCs during fights

The combat animations are brutal and heavy, making the bear feel completely different from traditional mounts. Some players even use bears purely for fun because of how chaotic the combat becomes.

Unfortunately, most normal bears currently function as temporary mounts. Once you dismount, the animal usually becomes hostile again instead of remaining loyal to the player.

Can You Unlock A Permanent Bear Mount?

This is where things become more interesting. While standard wild bears are temporary, Crimson Desert also includes special legendary versions that can become permanent mounts.

One of the most famous examples is the White Bear mount located in the northwestern snowy regions of the map. To access it, players usually need to progress further into the story and unlock specific late-game content tied to the Witch faction.

The process is more difficult than normal bear taming and involves:

  • Reaching advanced story chapters
  • Finding the White Bear boss
  • Defeating the legendary creature
  • Collecting special crafting materials
  • Unlocking mount registration features

Once completed, the White Bear becomes a permanent summonable mount instead of a temporary wild animal. This makes it one of the most desirable mounts in the entire game.
