New Delhi, 13 May 2026: Thailand Open India’s former world No. 1 pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made a strong start at the Thailand Open 2026. He won a tough match at the BWF World Tour event at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Top seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, ranked fourth in the badminton world rankings, defeated unranked Indonesian pair of Putra Erviansyah and Bagas Maulana 21-19, 23-21, 21-10 to enter the second round. They will now face Malaysia’s Guting Brian Jeremy and Haikal Muhammad in the round of 16. Despite a slow start and trailing 11-16 in the round of 32, Asian Games champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made a spectacular comeback by winning seven consecutive points. This gave them control over the match and they won the first game by a very close margin. A reversal of the match was seen in the BG game. The Indonesian pair made a strong comeback after trailing 11-9 and took the game to the tie-break. By winning the tie-break, they took the match into the decider. However, these top Indian players ensured that they did not face much trouble. They maintained their dominance from the beginning of the deciding game and won the match in 1 hour and 4 minutes.
The pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are now eyeing their third Thailand Open title. Previously, they have won the BWF World Tour Super 500 Series title twice (2019 and 2024). On the BG side, the second Indian men’s doubles pair, M.R. It was a disappointing day for Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan, who lost 18-21, 20-22 against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu-chieh and Chen Zi-re in the first round. In women’s doubles, Ritaparna Panda and Shwetaparna Panda also lost 9-21, 11-21 against Chinese Taiwanese Chih-Chun Lin and Yang Chu-Yun.
