Volkswagen has introduced a heavily revised version of its popular mid-size SUV, the Taigun, bringing several important upgrades aimed at improving comfort, technology and overall driving experience. The updated SUV now gets a more premium design, a new heavy-duty air-conditioning system and an upgraded 8-speed automatic transmission, making it one of the most refined offerings in its segment.
One of the biggest highlights of the new Taigun is its redesigned exterior styling. Volkswagen has added illuminated front and rear logos along with a connected tail-lamp bar that gives the SUV a modern and premium road presence. The SUV also features sleeker LED headlamps and a revised grille design, helping it stand out against rivals in the competitive mid-size SUV market.
Inside the cabin, Volkswagen has upgraded the software for the 10.25-inch digital driver display and infotainment system, making both screens smoother and more responsive to use. A panoramic sunroof has also been added, giving the cabin a more spacious and airy feel. The company has additionally improved comfort with ventilated front seats and significantly enhanced air-conditioning performance through a new variable compressor setup designed to handle extremely hot weather conditions more efficiently.
Under the hood, the 1.5-litre engine remains unchanged mechanically, but the 1.0-litre turbo petrol version now gets a new 8-speed automatic transmission replacing the older 6-speed unit. According to reports, the new gearbox improves low-speed drivability in city traffic while also offering smoother performance on highways. The SUV continues to deliver Volkswagen’s signature high-speed stability and balanced suspension setup.
Despite the improvements, a few features are still missing from the package. The SUV currently does not offer ADAS technology or a 360-degree camera system, both of which are becoming increasingly common in the segment. However, reports suggest these features may be added in future updates.
Volkswagen Taigun prices reportedly start from around ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom), and with the latest upgrades, the German SUV aims to challenge strong competition from Korean and Japanese rivals in India’s fast-growing SUV market.
