From Thursday morning, everyday essentials like the morning cup of tea, children’s breakfast and one of the most important kitchen staples will become more expensive as India’s leading dairy brands, Amul and Mother Dairy, implement fresh milk price hikes across the country amid rising production and operational costs.
The increase is expected to further strain household budgets at a time when families are already grappling with soaring living expenses triggered by the fuel crisis linked to the ongoing Middle-East conflict.
Amul milk prices
Amul and Mother Dairy - India's largest dairy product retailers - on Wednesday hiked milk prices by Rs 2 per litre, intensifying inflationary pressures already fuelled by the war and squeezing household budgets.
The increase, the second by the two dairy cooperatives in 13 months, is expected to prompt similar hikes by regional dairy companies.
Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets milk and milk products under the Amul brand, in a statement, said it has "increased the prices of fresh pouch milk by Rs 2 per litre in major milk-selling variants/packs across India effective from May 14".
Mother dairy prices:
Mother Dairy has increased consumer prices of its liquid milk variants by Rs 2 per litre, with the revised rates set to come into effect from May 14.
In a statement, Mother Dairy on Wednesday said the revision has been made due to a sustained increase in farmer procurement prices over the past year.
The increase is expected to further strain household budgets at a time when families are already grappling with soaring living expenses triggered by the fuel crisis linked to the ongoing Middle-East conflict.
