Carrie Underwood's 'grounded' and 'traditional' home on her 400-acre Tennessee farm: Inside the art inspiration and pieces

When one mentions the name of Carrie Underwood , what comes to mind? Sure, her onstage persona is possibly the first thing to pop up: the country superstar in spotlights, adorned with sequins, and performing with powerful vocals. However, when she steps out of that spotlight, it’s a different story.

Carrie Underwood at home is a very different scene. We’re talking muddy boots, animal chores, rough hands, and slow mornings on a huge slice of Tennessee farmland miles from anything resembling Hollywood.

Lately, she’s been talking openly about the lifestyle she and husband Mike Fisher have built with their sons — the 400 acres out near Franklin, Tennessee. But if you thought “celebrity mansion,” think again. This is more like a modern farmhouse, set on rolling hills, with horses, chickens, orchards, gardens, and greenhouses. The house itself is rustic and bright: exposed beams, open rooms, a lot of wood, and endless countryside outside the windows.

But none of it is about showing off. Carrie Underwood is clear: their life has intention. She laughs that she feels like “Cinderella at the ball” when she’s traveling for work, but at home? She’s covered in dirt, chasing animals and kids, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Carrie Underwood: One with her abodeFor the unversed, Carrie Underwood actually grew up on a farm herself, back in Oklahoma, before American Idol and all the fame. The Tennessee property, in a lot of ways, brings her full circle, back to the kind of life she knew before she ever belted out a song on TV.

In fact, home remains Underwood’s ultimate happy place. “Carrie loves life on the farm — growing vegetables, caring for animals, and teaching her kids to do the same,” says an insider, as reported by Us Weekly. “She loves her career and creating and performing, but as she has said, that’s not her real life. Her real life is at home with her family,” the insider adds.

The family and the farmThat’s where her marriage to Mike Fisher comes in. Underwood, 43, who is married to former pro hockey player husband, Mike Fisher, 45, has been embracing their rural retreat along with their sons, Isaiah, 11, and Jacob, 7. The couple left Hollywood in 2019, and since then, they’ve built a life complete with horses and chickens, a barn and a garden where Underwood grows carrots and beets.

Underwood recently told Us Weekly, “When I’m away [for work], I’m like Cinderella at the ball,” adding, “I’m a princess, and it’s great. And then I come home, and I’m covered in dirt [and] poop. It’s just the polar opposite. I’m cleaning up after everybody and barefoot in the kitchen. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

In fact, the insider told the outlet, “Carrie loves life on the farm — growing vegetables, caring for animals and teaching her kids to do the same,” adding, “She loves her career and creating and performing, but as she has said, that’s not her real life. Her real life is at home with her family.”

For the unversed, in 2018, Fisher briefly came out of retirement to play with the Nashville Predators, and the next year, the couple reportedly had to figure out how to navigate two very hectic schedules. According to the insider, “That has been the biggest struggle they have faced in their relationship: balancing their careers and paths, and letting each other pursue the things that make them happy while supporting each other and staying grounded as a couple. In the earlier years of their marriage, there was a lot of compromising.”

That attitude of finding balance and harmony runs through her parenting. Carrie wants her boys, Isaiah and Jacob, to have a normal childhood, celebrity or not. At home, there’s no movie set magic; just outdoor chores, everyday family stuff, and a lot of time spent outside. And the farm inspires her creative side. She doesn’t call it an art project, but it’s become a living expression of all the themes tied up in her music and public life: faith, family, honesty, hard work, and roots. She’s big on growing vegetables, taking care of the animals, canning, and gardening — the list goes on. She’s said she could live off what they raise on their property if she had to.

The insider told the outlet, “As supportive as he [Fisher] is of her [Underwood] career, he’s a guy who wants normalcy,” adding, “They are a very traditional couple living a not-so-traditional life.”

Less hustle, more holistic lifeCarrie’s wellness brand is all about that, too. It’s about strength, sustainability, eating from your land, and doing the work with your own hands. Gardening isn’t just a hobby; for her, it’s a way to reset and stay connected, part of her fitness and her mental health routine.

But one thing about Carrie, she never pretends it’s all romantic. She’s honest about her life because farm life truly is hard, messy, and often just plain tiring. There are way fewer “perfect” moments than most people would guess. But for Carrie, the real beauty is in those daily rituals — pulling carrots, stacking firewood, keeping chickens fed, or sitting down for a meal as a family.

But her Tennessee farm isn’t just a break from Hollywood: it’s where she finds balance, creativity, and a sense of home that goes all the way back to her roots. In a world that often encourages fast pace and hustle, slow, steady, and barefoot authenticity is exactly what’s got people talking about the truly “country” star.
