New Delhi. Young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi was on Thursday included in the India ‘A’ squad for the 50-over tri-series in Sri Lanka starting from June 9. Apart from India and host Sri Lanka, the other team in the tournament is Afghanistan ‘A’. The matches will be played in Dambulla. India will also play two multi-day (four-day) ‘Test’ matches in ‘A’ Galle but the squad for the same will be announced later.
It is believed that Suryavanshi has been included in the team because the selectors want to test him with the India ‘A’ team. The selectors want to try him before being selected in the senior team for the tour of Britain (Ireland and England) starting from June 26. This three-nation series will end on June 21. The average age of India’s 15-member team is around 23 years.
Fast bowlers Arshad Khan, Yudhveer Singh and Yash Thakur are the only players whose age is above 25 years. No player in the team is above 30 years of age and all have performed well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (National ODI Championship). Apart from this, all of them are also contracted in IPL.
Apart from Tilak (Mumbai Indians) and vice-captain Ryan Parag (Rajasthan Royals), Suryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals), Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Suryansh Shedge (all Punjab Kings), Harsh Dubey (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Nishant Sindhu, Arshad Khan (both Gujarat Titans), and Ayush Badoni (Lucknow Super Giants) have also been regular players for their respective teams during the current IPL season.
Anshul Kamboj (Test), Riyan Parag and Tilak Verma (T20 International and ODI International) have already played for the senior team. Ayush Badoni was selected in the Indian team earlier this year but he did not get a chance to play any match.
Tilak has already captained India ‘A’ while Arya had scored a century against Australia ‘A’ last year. The spinners include Dubey, Shedge, Vipraj Nigam while Prabhsimran and Kumar Kushagra are the two wicketkeepers. India ‘A’ team will play two matches each against Sri Lanka ‘A’ (June 9 and 15) and Afghanistan ‘A’ (June 11 and 17). The top two teams will meet in the final to be held on June 21.
India ‘A’ squad for tri-series: Tilak Verma (captain), Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Riyan Parag, Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Harsh Dubey, Suryansh Shedge, Prabhsimran Singh, Kumar Kushagra, Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Yudhveer Singh, Anshul Kamboj and Arshad Khan.
