A new era in Indian cricket is set to start as 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi takes another step towards a Team India debut. The southpaw was named in the India ‘A’ squad for a tri-series in Sri Lanka that also involves Afghanistan. Tilak Varma is the captain.

This means Vaibhav is on the cusp of an international debut. There has been chatter among experts to insert him into the senior side based on his form in junior cricket and the IPL.

Vaibhav made waves when he became the youngest IPL debutant in 2025. In the same edition he became the youngest IPL centurion. Earlier on in 2026, he helped India become the U-19 World Cup winners with a brilliant 175 in the final.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Eligible to Play for IndiaOn March 27 this year, Vaibhav turned 15. That made him eligible as per the ICC’s laws to play for his country. Now it is only a question of when and not if he represents India. He could break Sachin Tendulkar’s record and become the youngest Indian debutant.

At the moment, Vaibhav is playing for RR in IPL 2026. If RR win, Vaibhav shall become the youngest IPL champion. Should he go home with the Orange Cap, Vaibhav will be the 1st uncapped Orange Cap winner in IPL history in 18 years. Shaun Marsh, who was the first-ever Orange Cap winner, achieved the feat in 2008 when he was yet to make his debut for Australia. RR are currently in sixth place with six wins and five losses along with 12 points in 11 games. They are still in the hunt for a place in the Playoffs to end an 18-year title drought. The inaugural champions face DC on May 17.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Brilliant IPL 2026IPL 2026 has gone well for Vaibhav on a personal note. In 11 innings, he’s made 440 runs at an average of 40 and strike rate of 236.56. His personal best is 103. He has at least three more games to add to his tally and possibly another two if they make it to the next round.
