Former minister, DCP arrested, stop on illegal toll, what did Shubhendu change in Bengal?

This time Bharatiya Janata Party won the West Bengal elections and Shubhendu Adhikari became the Chief Minister. After taking oath on May 9, Subhendu Adhikari reversed many decisions of the Trinamool Congress government and some people were also arrested. Those arrested include Mamata Banerjee’s close aide and former minister Sujit Bose and Kolkata Police DCP Shantanu Sinha Biswas. Shubhendu government has taken decisions like implementing Ayushman Yojana in Bengal, starting census, stopping illegal tolls and banning slaughter of animals in the open.

 

On one hand, Sujit Bose and Shantanu Sinha Biswas, who were close to Mamta, have been arrested, while Nandini Chakraborty, another close friend of Mamta, has got a new posting. Nandini Chakraborty was removed from her post during the elections. She has also been Chief Secretary in the past. Now she has been made the Principal Coordinator of Development Works in the Chief Minister’s Office. Nandini has been given the responsibility of Border Security Force (BSF) coordination and land transfer for the fencing done on the India-Bangladesh border. Let us tell you that Nandini was removed from her post just a few hours after the elections were announced on March 15.

The blame fell on Mamata’s close ones

Now the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner (DCP) Shantanu Sinha Biswas in a case to alleged fraud and extortion. An official said that Shantanu was arrested after more than 10 hours of interrogation at the ED office in Kolkata. A senior ED official said, ‘Shantanu Sinha Biswas was questioned in connection with the investigation into alleged land grab, extortion and financial irregularities linked to Sona Pappu network. He repeatedly avoided giving direct answers and did not cooperate in the investigation.

 

 

“He was arrested based on the evidence collected and his conduct during interrogation,” he said. Let us tell you that Shantanu Sinha Vishwas, currently posted in the Security Control Department of Kolkata Police, appeared before the agency after ignoring the summons several times citing official commitments. ED had also issued a lookout circular against him. His alleged links with businessman Jai Kamdar, who is considered close to Sona Pappu, are being investigated in connection with the fraud case, officials said. He said that during the interrogation, several WhatsApp chats recovered during the investigation were also presented to Shantanu Biswas. Shantanu Sinha Vishwas, former officer-in-charge of Kalighat police station, is under investigation in several cases.

 

Earlier, ED had also interrogated TMC leader and former minister Sujit Bose on charges of Municipal Corporation recruitment scam and arrested him. The ED had also said about him that he was not cooperating in the investigation and his statements were not matching. It is noteworthy that even during the elections, ED had sent summons to Sujit Bose but he did not appear before the ED.

 

 

It is alleged that 329 ineligible candidates were wrongly given jobs in South Dumdum Municipal Corporation. It has also been said that people who got 0 marks in the interview were also given jobs. In this regard, CBI had investigated and also filed a charge sheet against the then Municipal Corporation Chairman Panchu Roy. Let us tell you that this time Sujit Bot lost the election from his assembly seat Bidhannagar. Before this, he had been winning from here since 2009.

Central schemes implemented in Bengal

Shubhendu Adhikari had decided in his first cabinet itself that now the Ayushman Bharat scheme of the central government will be implemented in West Bengal also. Apart from this, it was decided to give land to BSF for fencing the Bangladesh border. Giving information about this decision, Shubhendu Adhikari had said that the work of giving land will be completed in the next 45 days. He had also said that Mamata Banerjee’s government had not implemented the Indian Judicial Code in Bengal in violation of the Constitution. Now this will also be implemented in Bengal.

 

Apart from this, it has also been decided to implement other schemes of the Central Government in Bengal, to give five years relaxation in school jobs and to provide Central Government training to the officials of Bengal. Shubhendu Adhikari also said that a fact finding committee will also be formed to investigate the irregularities that occurred during the tenure of the previous government.

Order to stop illegal toll

BJP had been continuously alleging that TMC people set up illegal toll checkpoints at many places in Bengal and collect money from people. Now the West Bengal government has issued an order that all such toll gates, drop gates and barricades running without permission should be removed immediately. Besides, it has also been said that if anyone installs such gates again, action will be taken against them. It has also been said that a list of legally valid toll gates will be prepared and for how long they are valid, it should also be ascertained.

 

 

The government has sought information about both legal and illegal toll gates. Further steps will be taken only after this list comes. It is being said that in the coming time, legal action can also be taken against the people running such illegal toll gates so that they do not try to do so again.

Subhendu Adhikari is implementing BJP’s agenda

Apart from these decisions, Shubhendu Adhikari’s government has also started giving edge to BJP’s ‘Hindutva’ agenda. Singing Vande Mataram has been made mandatory in all schools and loudspeakers at religious places have been banned. Also, the state government has issued an order according to which slaughtering of animals in the open has been banned. Besides, it has also been said that a certificate will be required for slaughtering animals. It has also been said that legal action will be taken against slaughtering animals without certificate.

 

To energize its workers, the BJP government has ordered that cases to the violence that took place after the 2021 elections be reopened and investigated. Besides, the security of many leaders including Abhishek Banerjee has also been cut. However, there has been no reduction in the security of Mamata Banerjee.
