Lightweight cooling vests introduced across multiple cities

As temperatures continue to rise across India, food delivery workers are spending long hours outdoors in extreme heat. To help make working conditions more manageable during the summer, Swiggy has introduced special cooling vests for its delivery partners in several cities.

The lightweight jackets are designed to reduce body temperature without using electricity or batteries. They work through a simple cooling method in which the fabric is soaked in water before use. As the water slowly evaporates, it helps pull heat away from the body, creating a cooling effect for several hours. According to the company, the vests can lower body temperature by around 6 to 7 degrees Celsius for up to four hours after each soak.

The jackets have been made for hot and dry weather conditions, especially in areas where temperatures cross 40 degrees Celsius. They are also reusable and expected to last for up to two summer seasons. Available in different sizes, the vests are designed to fit comfortably and can be used by all delivery workers.

The initiative has been launched in partnership with Shell Foundation under its SPACES programme, which focuses on affordable cooling solutions. The idea behind the project is to provide simple and practical support to workers who spend most of their day outdoors.

The move has received positive reactions online, with many social media users calling it a thoughtful step. Some restaurant and cloud kitchen partners have also reportedly noticed that delivery workers appear more comfortable during peak afternoon heat.
