Are you suffering from weak core muscles, poor digestion or frequent constipation? If yes, then Shalabhasana can prove to be very useful for you. International Yoga Day is approaching. In this series, the Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India is giving daily information about Yogasana and its benefits. Today in this series, Shalabhasana has been explained.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, our body often gives mild signals before any major problem arises. Problems like weak core muscles, digestive system weakness and frequent constipation affect everyday life. Shalabhasana is considered very effective in dealing with these problems.

Shalabhasana is also called Locust Pose. In this asana, the person lies on the stomach and raises both the legs, due to which the body looks like an arrow. With this exercise, the lower abdominal muscles become stronger, the back muscles also become stronger and the entire core area becomes stronger.

Practicing Shalabhasana provides many benefits – it strengthens the core muscles, improves digestion and provides relief from constipation. Not only this, it reduces back and waist pain and also increases the strength and stamina of the body. Helps in removing fatigue and increasing energy.

According to experts, to practice Shalabhasana, lie down on the mat on your stomach. Keep your chin on the ground. Keep both hands along the body with palms facing down. While breathing in, slowly lift both the legs up. Raise your legs as high as possible and remain in this position for a few seconds, then slowly lower your legs while exhaling. Do it 3-4 times in the beginning, you can increase it later.

The Ministry of AYUSH says that regular exercise strengthens the stomach muscles, which improves digestion and eliminates common problems like constipation. This asana is especially beneficial for those people who have to work sitting for a long time. However, it is advisable to take some precautions. Pregnant women, those with hernia, serious back problems or recent surgery should do yoga only after consulting a specialist.
