To strengthen its competition with Snapchat, Instagram has now officially launched its new “Instants” app globally after testing it in select markets. This new feature is designed to share photos that disappear after being viewed and cannot be seen again after 24 hours.
The Instants app can be used in two ways — directly through Instagram or through a separate app.
How do Instants work?
Unlike Instagram’s typical posts and Stories, Instants focuses on sharing the original and unaltered content. Users cannot edit photos or upload photos from their phone’s gallery.
Ban on screenshot and screen recording
Instagram has also added some strong privacy- features to Instants. According to the company:
Users will not be able to take screenshots of shared instants.
Screen recording feature will also remain closed.
Those sent the photo can react with emojis, reply with a text message, or send back their own “Instant” photo.
A special “Undo” option lets users cancel a sent photo before the viewer even opens it.
