In Himachal Pradesh, voting will be held tomorrow i.e. Sunday for a total of 51 urban bodies including four Municipal Corporations, 25 Municipal Councils and 22 Nagar Panchayats. In these elections, 3 lakh 80 thousand voters will use their franchise, which will decide the fate of 1147 candidates.
Actually, for the voting process, about 550 polling parties will leave for the polling centers with EVMs today on Saturday. All polling parties will have to prepare polling booths for voting by evening, so that voting can start on time at 7 am on Sunday.
Election process for total 449 posts
Counting of votes for Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat will start immediately after the end of voting. However, the results of four municipal corporations Solan, Mandi, Palampur and Dharamshala will have to wait till May 31. According to the State Election Commission, the election process is going on for a total of 449 posts. Of these, 10 councilors have already been elected unopposed. Now 1147 candidates are in the fray for the remaining 439 posts, whose fate will be decided by 3 lakh 80 thousand voters of the state.

The details of the posts of councilors in different districts are as follows: Election will be held for a total of 34 councilor posts in Bilaspur, 27 in Chamba, 16 in Hamirpur, maximum 80 in Kangra, 39 in Kullu, 65 in Mandi, 58 in Shimla, 49 in Solan, 33 in Sirmaur and 48 councilors will be elected in the civic bodies of Una district. These include 64 councilors in four municipal corporations, 229 councilors in Municipal Council and 156 councilors in Nagar Panchayats. According to the Election Commission, councilors have been elected unopposed in Ward No. 1 and 3 of Nagar Panchayat Karsog, Ward No. 2 of Nagar Parishad Jwalamukhi, Ward No. 6 of Nagar Panchayat Banjar, Ward No. 1 of Nagar Panchayat Rewalsar, Ward No. 2, 3 and 4 of Nagar Panchayat Nerwa and Ward No. 2 of Nagar Panchayat Chirgaon.
About 3600 employees will perform duty
About 3600 employees will perform duty in these municipal elections. Each polling party will consist of a presiding officer, three polling officers and two to three security personnel. The elections of four municipal corporations are considered important for both the ruling Congress and BJP in the state, as these elections are held on the party symbol. For this reason, the results of these corporation elections are being considered as the semi-final of power before the assembly elections of December 2027. Due to this importance, both Congress and BJP parties have put their full strength in the campaign.
From the Congress side, all the ministers including Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, party in-charge Rajni Patil and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri were fielded in the election campaign. Similarly, BJP President Rajiv Bindal, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, party in-charge Shrikant Sharma and MP Anurag Thakur have also campaigned extensively for their party candidates.
