Andhra Pradesh Scheme: Expressing concern over the declining population, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has announced a new scheme offering cash assistance of ₹30,000 for the birth of a third child and ₹40,000 for the birth of a fourth child.
Andhra Pradesh Population Policy: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has introduced a new scheme for the people of the state—one that is likely to leave you surprised. Expressing concern over the decelerating population growth rate within the state, he announced a new financial incentive package. Under this scheme, the government will now provide cash assistance to families upon the birth of their third and fourth children.
He made this announcement during the ‘Swarna Andhra–Swachh Andhra’ program held in Narasannapeta, stating that children are the nation’s “assets,” not a burden. Therefore, society must focus on increasing the birth rate.
The Government’s New Incentive Scheme
Speaking during the event in Narasannapeta, the Chief Minister said, “As part of efforts to encourage population growth, the government will now provide assistance of ₹30,000 to a family upon the birth of a third child, and ₹40,000 upon the birth of a fourth child.”
CM Chandrababu Naidu remarked, “I have given this matter considerable thought on several occasions.” He also acknowledged that while the emphasis was previously placed on promoting family planning, the changing circumstances now necessitate viewing population growth as equally essential. The Chief Minister further asserted that children should not be perceived as a burden, but rather as assets to both the nation and the state. He firmly believes that maintaining a demographic balance is crucial for ensuring a robust future.
Previous Incentive Schemes
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu stated that the time has come for society—and for all of us—to work together collectively to boost the birth rate. This is not the first instance of such an announcement being made; previously, the government had also proposed providing ₹25,000 upon the birth of a second child. Following this latest statement, it is anticipated that political debate surrounding this issue is likely to intensify.
