LPG Subsidy New Rule: Lately, there have been numerous issues surrounding gas cylinders. Amidst this, new regulations regarding the subsidy provided on gas have also been introduced. It is essential that you familiarize yourself with these rules.
LPG Subsidy New Rule: If you are currently availing the benefit of the subsidy provided on gas cylinders, you should be aware that the Central Government has significantly tightened the rules regarding LPG subsidies. Consequently, many individuals will cease receiving the subsidy, and simultaneously, fraudulent and inactive connections will be permanently disconnected. Read on to learn about this new rule in detail.
What Are the New Gas Subsidy Rules?
According to the Central Government's new regulations, if your annual income is ₹10 lakh or higher, you will be classified as belonging to the "high-income group" and will, therefore, not be eligible to receive a subsidy on your gas cylinder.
Why Are These Rules Necessary?
According to media reports, data analyzed in Rajasthan revealed that over 40,000 consumers fall into the high-income group yet continue to avail the benefits of the subsidy. The government is also targeting individuals holding fraudulent or inactive connections. This implies that in many households, gas accounts are still being operated under the names of deceased individuals. Under the new regulations, if gas is currently being drawn under the name of a deceased person, the family is required to transfer the connection to the name of an eligible family member within 30 days.
Different Rules for Beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Scheme:
The rules differ for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). These families are granted special relief by the government, and the income ceiling rule of ₹10 lakh does not apply to them, as they already fall below the poverty line (BPL).
How Is This Information Being Disseminated?
Messages are currently being sent to the mobile numbers of all gas cylinder consumers across the country. If you have also received such a message on your mobile number, you have a window of just 7 days to take the necessary action. You can call the toll-free number 1800-2333-555 or register your grievance on the company's official portal.
What to do if you do not receive your gas subsidy?
In the event that you do not receive your gas subsidy, first ensure that your bank account and Aadhaar card are linked to your gas connection—that is, begin by checking your 'KYC' status. If your annual income is less than ₹10 lakh and the subsidy is still not being credited to your account, there could be several technical reasons for this. To address this, you can register your complaint by logging into the official MyLPG Portal or by contacting your gas agency.
