OpenAI Personal Finance: AI continues to introduce one impressive feature after another. Now, OpenAI has added another Personal Finance feature, enabling users to directly connect their bank accounts, credit cards, and investment accounts to the AI chatbot. This feature is designed to simplify expense tracking, subscription management, and future financial planning. Notably, this new feature allows users to link their banking and investment data with ChatGPT. Once the accounts are connected, the AI analyzes your expenses, investments, and subscriptions to provide you with comprehensive insights.

What Can Users Ask ChatGPT?

With this new feature, users can ask ChatGPT a variety of questions, such as: How much was spent this month? Which subscriptions are currently active? Is a major financial goal, like buying a home, currently feasible? Or, have expenses increased compared to previous months? Now, your app can provide you with all this information in the blink of an eye. This can make financial management significantly easier.

Support for Over 12,000 Banks and Financial Platforms

OpenAI has utilized Plaid integration for this feature, which enables support for over 12,000 financial institutions. Supported platforms include Chase, Fidelity, Robinhood, Schwab, American Express, and Capital One. This feature operates on the GPT-5.5 Thinking model. Pro users also gain access to the GPT-5.5 Pro model.

How to Use It? A Step-by-Step Guide

If you wish to take advantage of this feature, the setup process is extremely simple. You can start using this feature by following the easy steps outlined below:
Open the ChatGPT app or website on your phone or laptop.
Click on the new "Finance" section visible in the sidebar.
If you do not see this option, you can also go directly to the chat box, type "@Finances, connect my accounts," and press Enter. Next, follow the on-screen prompts to link your bank or investment account securely via Plaid.
That’s it—once you’ve done this, you’re all set. You can now ask direct questions, such as, "What are my total expenses for this month?" or "Which unnecessary subscriptions can I cancel?"

But is your money completely safe?

When it comes to bank accounts and finances, the first question that usually comes to mind concerns security. The good news here is that ChatGPT has taken every precaution to ensure your safety.

No Money Transfers: ChatGPT can only view your account balance, transaction history, investments, and liabilities (debts). It cannot transfer funds from your account, nor does it have access to your full account number.

Data Deletion: You can disconnect your account at any time. Within 30 days of disconnection, all your data is completely and permanently deleted from the system.

Financial Memory Control: Users retain full control to manually delete their financial memories whenever they wish.

No Access in Temporary Chats: If you are using the "Temporary Chat" option, the AI will not be able to access your financial data at all.

More Features Coming Soon

OpenAI recently acquired the personal finance startup "Hero." Additionally, the company has confirmed an integration with Intuit. Furthermore, even more impressive features are expected in the future. These may include features such as tax estimation, stock sale calculations, credit approval insights, and budget planning tools. This would allow ChatGPT to function as a comprehensive AI financial assistant.
