Entrepreneur and content creator Ankur Warikoo has sparked discussion online after sharing career advice he gave to a young father struggling to choose between a high-paying job offer and family responsibilities.

The exchange, shared by Warikoo on social media, centred around a young professional who found himself torn between career growth and personal well-being after becoming a father.

Young father shares dilemma

According to the post, the man explained that his current job provided “strong exposure” but involved night shifts that were beginning to affect his physical and mental health.

He said the birth of his child had changed his outlook on life and made family responsibilities and long-term well-being a priority.

At the same time, he had received an offer from another company that promised career growth and better work conditions. However, the opportunity required relocating to Mumbai and living away from his family while his wife completed her thesis.

The move would also reduce his short-term savings because of Mumbai’s higher living costs.

Warikoo advises him to reject both options

Rather than comparing salaries or growth prospects, Warikoo focused on how the opportunity had come about. He asked the man whether he had actively pursued the role or if the offer had arrived unexpectedly.

When the man replied that the opportunity had “come his way,” Warikoo said that revealed the real issue.

“Something came your way, and now you are disturbed whether you should take it or not,” Warikoo wrote.

He suggested that instead of forcing himself to choose between two imperfect situations, the man should pursue the kind of role he truly wanted.

“So go and chase the role you want, where this conflict doesn’t exist,” Warikoo advised.

Lesson extends beyond careers

Warikoo further explained that people often make life decisions based on options placed before them rather than choices they intentionally create for themselves.

“This is true for jobs. Relationships. Cities. Everything,” he wrote.

According to him, better decisions come when people actively build opportunities aligned with their values instead of settling for situations that appear unexpectedly.

The advice has resonated widely online, with many users praising the focus on long-term fulfilment, mental well-being, and intentional decision-making.#AnkurWarikoo #CareerAdvice #WorkLifeBalance #Parenting
