Food creativity has reached a whole new level on social media. From oddly-shaped dosas to ice cream, Maggi, and chocolate briyani, culinary enthusiasts and content creators are constantly trying quirky food experiments, entertaining the audience. While some have been successful in winning the hearts of foodies, others are looked at with a frown or disgust due to their bizarre combinations and ingredients. Now, a Punjab-based food influencer, Sukhraj, has shared a humorous video on Instagram where he is seen making a hand-shaped roti to prank his parents, leaving social media in absolute splits. The video has received more than 23.3 million views.

Hand-shaped roti preparation

The clip shows Sukhraj rolling out the dough on a kitchen board before placing his hand on the flattened mixture. Next, he outlined his hand with a knife and cut the dough into a similar shape. After that, he put the hand-shaped dough into a pan, cooked it on both sides, and poured a dollop of ghee on top, much like how a roti is made.

Once done, Sukhraj served the hot roti on a plate and offered it to his dad, playfully asking him, ‘Thappan khana?’, referring to the common phrase parents often use while scolding their children. Watching the bizarre roti, Sukhraj’s dad could not help but break into a smile. His mom also could not stop laughing at his son’s creativity. The light-hearted text layout read, ‘How to get disowned by your Punjabi dad. In his caption, Sukhraj wrote, ‘Might have taken ‘thappar khana’ a bit too literally.’

Echoing a similar sentiment, another wrote, ‘Your mum’s laugh has me smiling and your dad’s face says he’s survived years of chaos.’ Many humorously called it a ‘risky’ yet ‘genius’ venture. ‘Uncle ji aadhe ghante baad chappal ki shape ki roti laate hue (Uncle returning half an hour later with a slipper-shaped roti)’ read another remark.

According to Sukhraj’s official website badandbhaji, he is an avid foodie who loves to eat, cook and share dishes. His love for food started in his Punjabi household, where his mother has been whipping up delicious meals for over 6 decades and passed down the recipes to him. Since then, Sukhraj has been learning the art of flavours and techniques from his travels around the world, running supper clubs across London since 2019, and blending global influences with his Punjabi roots.
