Modi-Iceland PM meeting in Oslo, India-Nordic cooperation gets new strength!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with his Icelandic counterpart Kristrun Frostadottir in Oslo on Tuesday. In this meeting, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and other officials were also present. Prime Minister Modi is currently on a two-day visit to Norway.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that this summit will further strategicize India-Nordic countries relations, taking forward the trend of the last two summits held in Stockholm in April 2018 and Copenhagen in May 2022. This will especially focus on areas like technology, innovation, green transition, renewable energy, sustainability, blue economy, defence, space and Arctic.

On Monday, Prime Minister Modi participated in the India-Norway Business and Research Summit in Oslo. Here he talked about the growing cooperation between the two countries after the trade and economic partnership agreement between India and EFTA.

The event was attended by CEOs of more than 50 companies and more than 250 people from the business and research sectors of India and Norway. During this period, many agreements were also signed between Indian and Norwegian companies.

Prime Minister Modi reached Norway on Monday in the fourth leg of his five-nation tour. As a special initiative, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store himself welcomed him at the airport. On this occasion, Norwegian Ambassador to India May-Elin Steiner, Indian Ambassador to Norway Gloria Gangte and many senior officials were also present.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi also met King Harald-V at the Royal Palace in Oslo. The two leaders discussed growing cooperation between Indian and Norwegian companies, especially in the field of new technologies.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said the Prime Minister appreciated the natural beauty of Norway and noted that the long-standing friendship between India and Norway continues to grow stronger based on shared values, democracy, rule of law and people-centric governance.
